The development of microcontrollers has been ongoing since the early 1970s. Since then, microcontrollers have evolved from simple devices into complex systems with advanced functions. Early microcontrollers, such as the Intel 8048, had only limited memory and processing power. Nowadays, microcontrollers have more powerful CPUs and more-capable peripheral devices, such as wireless connectivity and touchscreens.
